About Jose

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

- Nelson Mandela

Born and raised in Woodland, I am the son of Mexican migrants whose journey has profoundly shaped my life. Growing up in the close-knit neighborhoods of Donnelly Circle and Yolano Drive, I forged lasting friendships with some of my best friends to this day. From the age of seven to seventeen, my summers and after-school hours were dedicated to working hard in the fields, irrigating farmlands that stretched from West Sacramento to Dunnigan. This upbringing instilled in me a profound sense of resilience and a great appreciation for the land and the bonds formed through shared labor.

As a dedicated business owner and farmer in Yolo County, I have spent years honing my skills in leadership, management, and community engagement. My journey is further supported by my education in Business Administration and Gerontology from Sacramento State University. This unique combination of fields has equipped me with a robust understanding of both effective business practices and the critical importance of quality care and support for people at every stage of life.

My passion for serving the community stems from a lifelong commitment to making life better for those around me. This drive is evident in every aspect of my work and personal life. As a husband for nearly 25 years, a father to three wonderful young men and daughter-in-law, as well as a proud grandfather, I understand the values of family and importance of community support.

I have always been deeply troubled by those who exploit and mistreat others for their own gain. My commitment to fairness and respect drives me to stand up against injustice and ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and compassion. Just hours after registering for candidacy, I received a phone call attempting to intimidate me into dropping out of the race so that the preferred candidate could run unopposed. Regrettably, these tactics succeeded with a fellow candidate for the WJU School Board when his business was threatened causing him to withdraw from the race just 48 hours after registering. Now, the preferred School Board candidate is running unopposed. It is disturbing that such tactics are used even at the most local levels of government—a school board seat, no less. This County appears to be influenced by bullies and those with influential connections, which is not how our local government should operate.

Despite these challenges, my resolve to contribute positively remains steadfast. I am committed to leveraging my experience, education, and passion to effect real change and serve our community with integrity and dedication. I’d love to hear from you and learn what your experiences and concerns are. I am excited to serve future generations in the same way that the support and opportunities I received were a tremendous blessing for me. Thank you for considering my candidacy. Together, we can work towards a future where our community thrives and our voices are heard.
